Today was a sick day. We were sad to have to miss our trip to the Museum of Natural History, we may try to make it up next weekend.

Thursday- 9/27/2007

Well, not a great day for homeschooling...our family has a bug, so not much got done today. We did get Circle Time and math done (we learned about distance and took some measurements), but we didn't get any of our Nature Study done. Hopefully, everyone will feel better soon so we can get on with life!

Edited to add...we did end up getting our nature table done after this post, here are some pictures of what we added this week...

Wednesday- 9/26/2007

Well, I had grand plans for a very cool art project (making an actual doll), but Noah was sick last night and I got hardly any sleep, so plans changed. I looked around online this morning and decided we would make paper dolls instead. We got kind of a late start on Circle Time (and we got to have a special guest, Daddy!) and then immediately did our art project. It went really well! Lyna loves the dolls. I would still like to make the doll at some point, but I am thinking maybe for the end of the year project? Anyway, here are some pics from today...

Tuesday- 9/25/2007

Today was good. We had a good circle time, Lyna was really excited about our story "Why Bat Has No Friends" (Aesop's Fables). She was relating it closely to her own relationship with her aunt Randi Kay because in the fable the mammals and birds are fighting and she and Randi Kay fight! It was very funny, she kept stopping me every time I would say fight and telling me that her and Randi fight over toys and that it's not very nice! I think it is really helping having the dancing/singing time during Circle Time, Lyna is responding so much better to this then she was to the yoga. After Circle Time, we did science. We built a dam with help from Daddy...Our dam didn't really keep the water out very well, but Lyna sure had fun playing in the sand! We also did some handwriting work sheets and wrote a letter. Lyna is so fascinated with mail, this has become a fabulous way to get her to practice handwriting!

Monday- 9/24/2007

Today was a good day for school. Circle Time went well. We have decided to replace yoga with a "dancing and singing" time, to get all of the energy out! It worked much better for us. This afternoon we learned about the letter Dd and the sound "d" as in dog. We learned the ASL signs for D, duck, dog, dinosaur, dance, dolphin, and doll. Lyna continues to amaze with the speed that she picks up the signs, we are really having fun with those!

Friday- 9/21/2007

We had Randi Kay again with us today, she really loves Circle Time! Both of the kids were good for Circle Time. We had plans of cloud watching in the morning today, but here was the sky this morning...
Yep, only blue, no clouds! So, instead we printed out some pictures of clouds and talked about the different kinds. We also reviewed all of the letters, vocabulary, and signs we have learned thus far this year. This afternoon we went on a field trip to a friend's house to the their chicken coop. The kids really loved this! So much so, that afterwards they were pretending that their car seats were their nests and they were chickens. They then went on to build their own "chicken coop" when we got home. They love chickens!

And just for fun...here is the sky now...
Of course! So, we may have to go out after Lyna's nap and cloud watch for a bit.

Thursday- 9/20/2007

After two days off, we got back into the swing of things today. We did Circle Time and then we did some math, learning about calendars and doing counting. For nature study, we made a wind waver and said goodbye to summer on out nature table and started our fall table.

We had Randi Kay again for Circle Time, it was lots of fun and both the girls really enjoyed it. We read the fairytale "Little Louse and Little Flea". We learned about the letter C and the "c" as in cat sound. We learned ASL for the letter C, cat, caterpillar, cow, crystal, cow, and crocodile. Both of the girls really enjoyed the sign language!

Friday- 9/14/2007

We had a good circle time today. We then went on a field trip to ride the boats at the Bricktown Canal. We had fun, it was a beautiful day! Alyna was tired, she hadn't had a nap, so she was a bit temperamental, but we still had a good time! Here are some pictures...

Thursday- 9/13/2007

Our air conditioner decided to quit on us today, so Circle Time was rushed today, as most of the day was spent trying to remedy that problem. After circle time, we worked on math, learning about "before" numbers and then did our nature project, paper molds. We used paper along with grass and other nature elements to make these. We also worked more on our summer nature table, adding seashells to it.

Wednesday- 9/12/2007

Circle Time went well today, Lyna was a little restless, but we made our "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" book and finished all of our rhymes. For our art project we made a Ballerina Fairy Tutu. It was pretty time consuming, but really easy. Here are some pics (and yes she does wear her gymnastics outfit every day!)...

Tuesday- 9/11/2007

Today was a pretty lazy day, after Circle Time (which Noah participated in a lot more, clapping with the rhythms), we did our science experiment. It isn't going to be evaluated until tomorrow, it didn't take too long. We are learning about the affect of acid on bones by putting chicken bones (cleaned of course) into vinegar over night. We will evaluate and study this in the morning more. For the afternoon lesson, we did handwriting. We did a few worksheets and then got our pen pal letter ready to go (unfortunately Daddy lost the stamps, so it probably won't get mailed out until tomorrow, Lyna was very sad about this).

Monday- 9/10/2007

Today, we did Circle Time with a guest, Randi Kay. Both of the girls had a lot of fun. We did yoga, some rhymes, and read "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". Later in the day we learned about the letter B and the sound "b". We learned the words and the signs for banana, balloon, butterfly, book, bones, and ballet. We read the Bob Book Mac, emphasizing the sound "b". Lyna has been really interested in the signing, she has been doing the signs from last week over and over and was very excited to get some new ones today to put into her vocabulary. Here are some pictures of her doing her signs (yes, we are doing signs in the bathroom, don't ask!). The signs are for ambulance (learned last week), book, and bones.

Friday- 9/7/2007

Today, was our "Fun Friday" day. We started the day, as always, with Circle Time. Lyna was able to tell me the fairytale "Sweet Porridge" with help from the pictures we had made earlier in the week. We then went on our field trip to the Omniplex Science Museum to learn about astronauts. Unfortunately, the air and space part of the museum is currently under renovation, so we didn't get to see much, only the few exhibits that were still in the open areas. But, we had fun anyways...Here are some pics...

Thursday- 9/6/2007

On Thursday, Michael takes over for Circle Time while I attend a yoga class. He said it went well. The played out the fairytale of "Sweet Porridge" with puppets, did rhymes, and singing. First morning lesson time, we did some math. We learned how to use an abacus and worked out some problems. Lyna did really well on this and seemed to really take to the abacus, I think I will incorporate it into our math more often from here on out. For afternoon lesson time, we had nature study. Today, we made an ice sculpture. Here are some pictures...
Also, for nature study we worked on our nature table. Basically, our nature table, is a table with different things that represent the current season on it. We go on weekly nature walks to collect things for it as well as use things from around the house. Here are some pictures (yes my daughter is wearing two different shoes, she has been insistent on picking out her own clothes as of late!)...

Wednesday- 9/5/2007

Today, we started Circle Time a bit late (Mommy went off to the Farmer's Market, completely forgetting about it!). But, it went well. We drew our fairytale, Sweet Porridge, into our own book and (very surprisingly to Mommy) Lyna already knew the story by herself (we have only went over it for 2 days). We also did our art project today. We made apple prints, so pretty much we painted with apples. Here are some pictures (please excuse the odd editing, but Lyna was a little scantily clad while painting, for good reasons, and this is the internet!).

And the finished project...
